Cotton Market News and Commentary

Cotton futures are trading 19 to 27 points lower to start the week. They saw 86 to 99 point gains in most contracts on Friday. The US dollar index was down a sharp 790 points on Friday and was just slightly higher on Monday morning overseas. The Cotlook A Index was up 45 points on January 24 to 83 cents/lb. With the FSA offices open, USDA released their updated Adjusted World Price on Thursday @ 64.90 cents/lb. USDA’s Cotton Classing report showed that 486,929 bales of upland cotton was classed in the week of 1/24. That brought the season total to 15.417 million upland, with the total cotton including Pima at 16.044 million bales.
